Introduction: Oral health is very important in mentally retarded patients
due to their physical and mental limitations. However oral health indexes are evaluated in these patients frequently, but there is limited data about the biological changes in their saliva. This study aimed to evaluate the bacterial flora and saliva PH of 6-12 years old institutionalized mentally retarded children in Tabriz city in 2019.
Method and Materials: In this cross sectional study bacterial culture, gram staining and PH of saliva of the salivary samples of 24 children with 6-12 years old, were evaluated. For this purpose salivary samples were placed in two plates containing blood agar and EMB. Then specific culture medium was applied for characterization of grown bacteria. The data was analyzed by SPSS.17 software.
Results: The saliva of these people is in the alkaline range, 7.75. 81% of the grown bacteria were gram positive and 19% were gram negative. The majority of grown bacteria belonged to Staphylococcus aureus with 40.9% and perceptively was followed by Streptococcus mutans with 17.3%. Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli which are not commonly cultured in the saliva samples of healthy people were positive in 13.6% of culture mediums.
Conclusion: physical limitations and altered saliva microbial flora such as presence of Enterococcus and Escherichia coli take the attentions to the necessity of designing and preparing specific hygiene products and preventive dentistry protocols according to the oral condition of these patients

Pediatric zirconia crown is a durable functional restoration that provides a natural tooth appearance and beauty.
Case Report: In this study, the results of reconstruction of two primary molars with prefabricated zirconia crowns in two 5-year-old children have been reported. The protocol of implementation of zirconia crowns was discussed step by step and in detail. Patients were followed up for 24 months and the compliance of zirconia crown, gingival health, and tooth wear has been assessed.
Conclusion: Zirconia crown provides the patient with durability and beauty for 24 months.

Objective: To review current models and scientific evidence on the influence of mother’s knowledge of oral health behaviors on their preschool children’s oral health.
Method: MEDLINE, EMBASE and Scopus databases were searched for articles published between January 2009 and December 2019 on mother’s oral health behavior.
Results: A total of 324 citations were retrieved, with 17 articles finally included in the analysis. The studies utilized various methods, including text messaging, phone conversation, of which motivational interviewing method was more effective in their knowledge and behaviors about their preschool child’s oral health.
Conclusion: Mother’s knowledge has a direct effect influence on their preschool children’s oral health. Oral health education programs aimed at preventive actions are needed to provide children not only with adequate oral health, but better quality of life. Special attention should be given to the entire family, concerning their lifestyle and oral health habits.

Introduction: Periodic evaluation of educational programs provides insight into the course and teaching effectiveness. Effective evaluation provides valuable information, which contributes to both student’s and course success. The purpose of this study was to evaluate of intern students prospective of paediatric dentistry department at Jundishapur university of medical science in clinical skills education. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 40 last year undergraduate dental students in paediatric dentistry at Ahwaz Jundishapur dental school. This questionnaire was included fourteen questions about quality of different clinical skills in paediatric dentistry that was asked and finally some questions were given to each student about facilities of paediatric department and number of their practice in each treatment due to find out their relationship with student’s ability in paediatric department. Data were analysed by Mann-Whitney test in SPSS software. Results: According to the study results, among 14 different clinical skills in paediatric dentistry the highest success rate of paediatric dentistry department in requirement and clinical skills were in prevention and injection and the lowest success rate were in trauma control and pulp treatment of immature permanent teeth. Student’s ability in restoration and pulpotomy of primary teeth were good and very good Conclusions: This study showed that the students’ self-reported clinical skills in different parts of paediatric dentistry has been adequate. Students reported a lack of confidence in “control of trauma” and “pulp treatment of immature permanent teeth” which warrants greater emphasis in that fields in the undergraduate education.

Introduction: Oral health is a part of the general physical health. It is important to have healthy gums and teeth. Healthy teeth and gums are important for maintaining beauty and confidence, talking, chewing, and swallowing. The main strategy for preserving oral health is the implementation of health promotion interventions and various health education strategies, in accordance with the new learning methods and the most effective and shortest techniques to achieve the goal of promoting oral health. Methods: The present study employed qualitative research and grounded theory research method. In this method, the collected data were analyzed based on the three coding stages of Strauss and Corbin (1990). Interconnected concepts form an axis or component, and from them will come the categories. Finally, a theory is formed out of categories. Results: The data included 122 elementary concepts from which 52 components were extracted. The present study findings consist of five levels including: 14 components related to the underlying issues and challenges of oral health in children and adolescents (causal conditions) such as: unhealthy nutrition, specific diseases and medications, mothers' inappropriate health behaviours, economic and cultural poverty, lack of access to dental services, etc.; 11 components related to enabling and promoting oral health (strategic factors) such as: intervention through schools, audio-visual media, individual counselling, interviewing, etc.; 8 components related to the context of oral health promotion in children and adolescents (contextual factors); 9 components related to oral health promotion threats and limitations in children and adolescents (interfering factors); and 10 components related to improvements and successes in oral health (outcomes). They can provide relatively comprehensive data on developing a paradigmatic model of prevention of oral diseases and education of oral health promotion of children and adolescents in Iran. Conclusions: The present study results leads researchers to developing a paradigmatic model of prevention of oral diseases and education of oral health promotion of children and adolescents in Iran.
